Tetrabutylammonium phosphate monobasic is a synthetic reagent. It can serve as a pH buffer in various chemical and biological applications.
Application
Tetrabutylammonium phosphate monobasic is the suitable reagent used in the following studies:
Resolution of disaccharides reverse-phase ion-pairing HPLC (RPIP-HPLC).
Disaccharide analysis of 35S- heparan sulfate (HS).
As folding buffer for the dissolution of desalted oligonucleotides.
It may be used as reagent for the analysis of tetrasaccharides and 35S-disaccharides by HPLC. It may also be used in the preparation of monobasic tetrabutylammonium phosphate (TBAP) imprinted polymers.

Tetramethylammonium hydrogen sulphate (TMAHS) is a quaternary ammonium salt composed of the tetramethylammonium cation and the hydrogen sulphate (bisulphate) anion. It typically appears as a white to off-white crystalline or hygroscopic solid, readily soluble in water and polar solvents due to its ionic nature. Chemically, it behaves as a strongly ionic, non-volatile compound with mild acidic character arising from the hydrogen sulphate ion, which can donate a proton in aqueous media. This acidity distinguishes it from fully neutral sulphate salts and makes it useful where controlled proton availability is required.
In terms of applications, TMAHS is used mainly as a phase-transfer agent, ionic additive, or intermediate in fine chemical synthesis and research applications. Its quaternary ammonium structure gives it good compatibility with aqueous systems, while the hydrogen sulphate counter-ion allows participation in acid-catalysed or ion-exchange processes. Safety-wise, it should be handled with care: although not highly toxic, it is irritating to skin and eyes, and like many quaternary ammonium salts, it should not be released untreated into the environment due to potential aquatic toxicity. Proper storage in dry, well-sealed containers is important, as it readily absorbs moisture from air.
